The Big Five aren’t just the world’s largest technology companies. They are the infrastructure of modern life — the phone in your hand, the cloud behind your workplace, the search box you think with, the feed you scroll, the parcels at your door. Most of us never chose that dependence; it accumulated, one convenient decision at a time.
So here’s a way to find out what you actually depend on, rather than what you merely use: if you were forced to give up these five companies — all of them, one at a time — in what order would you let them go? Your first pick is the one you could live without tomorrow. Your last is the one you’d cling to until the end.
